Cookie Policy

This page explains what cookies and browser storage CDLTest360 uses, why we use each one, how long it stays on your device, and how to turn off the ones that aren't strictly required. Wherever we say "cookies" below, we also mean similar technologies such aslocalStorage and sessionStorage, which are how most modern web apps — including CDLTest360 — keep you signed in and remember what you were studying. We do not use cookies for advertising, we do not sell your data, and we do not share cookie information with data brokers.

CDLTest360 is a study tool for the U.S. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) written exam. That means most of what we store on your device is directly tied to a study session: the practice test you're taking right now, the questions you've already answered, your free-trial counter, your selected question bank, and the preferences you've set (dark mode, chosen state, guided vs. manual pre-trip mode). Without that storage the app can't remember where you were between page loads, which is why the items in the "Essential" section below can't be turned off.

Essential

Required for the app to work. These cannot be turned off. Deleting them will sign you out and reset any practice tests in progress.

  • Authentication: a session token so you stay signed in across pages and browser tabs. Removed on sign-out.
  • Quiz progress: your current attempt, answered questions, and free-trial counter (stored in localStorage). Kept until you finish or reset the attempt, so a refresh or accidental back button doesn't wipe your session.
  • Preferences: selected question bank, PTI mode (guided/manual), state, cookie choice. Persistent until you change them or clear browser storage.
  • CSRF and security tokens: short-lived cookies set by our backend to protect against cross-site attacks.

Analytics (optional)

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use the app so we can improve it — which practice tests get taken, which pages are hard to find, where people drop off. Analytics cookies are set to "denied" by default and are never loaded until you click "Accept" in the cookie banner. If you decline, no Google Analytics code runs at all on your device. We do not use advertising cookies, do not run remarketing pixels, and do not enable Google Analytics features that build user profiles for ads.

Third parties

A handful of services CDLTest360 relies on set their own cookies when you interact with them. We only load these when they're actually needed:

  • Stripe — sets cookies during checkout for fraud prevention and payment processing. Loaded only on the checkout and billing pages. See Stripe's privacy notice.
  • Google Analytics — only if you consent. See Google's cookie documentation.
  • Supabase — our authentication and database provider. Sets a session cookie so signing in works. This is part of the "Essential" bucket above.

How long cookies last

Session cookies (the ones that keep you signed in during a single visit) are deleted when you close the browser tab. Persistent cookies — preferences, cookie choice — last up to 12 months unless you clear them earlier. Google Analytics cookies, if you've consented, expire after 2 years by default. We never set a cookie that lasts longer than it needs to.

Your choices

You can change your cookie choice at any time — accept, decline, or revisit the banner:

You can also block or clear cookies in your browser settings. Every major browser has controls in Settings → Privacy for deleting cookies, blocking third-party cookies, or clearing all site data. Note that if you block essential cookies you'll be signed out and the app won't be able to remember your progress between page loads.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy whenever we add, remove, or change how we use cookies. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page will change with any material update, and we'll re-prompt for consent if we add anything that requires it.
