ELDT Theory Practice Test
As of February 7, 2022, the FMCSA requires every first-time CDL applicant, every driver upgrading from Class B to Class A, and every driver adding a Passenger, School Bus, or HazMat endorsement to complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT). ELDT has two parts: theory (classroom-style knowledge) and behind-the-wheel (BTW) range and road training.

- Non-driving activities: handling cargo, hours of service, drug and alcohol rules, medical requirements
- Endorsement theory: HazMat, Passenger, and School Bus (when applicable)
How to study
- ELDT theory questions overlap heavily with General Knowledge and endorsement material — treat this as your review layer.
- Focus on the non-driving topics (HOS, DOT medical, drug/alcohol) — they're often the least familiar to new drivers.
- Your Training Provider Registry (TPR) provider is the one who certifies your ELDT to the FMCSA. This practice test is a study aid, not the official certification.
